Nesta última quarta-feira (22), o Spotify anunciou que irá encerrar suas operações no Uruguai após a aprovação de uma lei sobre direitos autorais. De acordo com a empresa, o texto aprovado não deixa claro as mudanças para as plataformas de streaming, podendo resultar no Spotify pagando duas vezes pela mesma música.
Atualmente, o Spotify paga direitos autorais para gravadoras e editoras, que, segundo a empresa, remuneram os artistas e compositores. A nova lei uruguaia permitiria que os próprios artistas reivindicassem o pagamento de direitos autorais, não apenas seus representantes.
A empresa afirmou que já destina quase 70% de cada dólar gerado com música para as gravadoras e editoras detentoras dos direitos autorais, que representam e remuneram os artistas e compositores. Qualquer pagamento adicional, segundo o comunicado enviado à imprensa, tornaria o negócio insustentável.
Segundo a empresa, os serviços serão encerrados no Uruguai a partir de 1º de janeiro de 2024, com a operação sendo totalmente encerrada em fevereiro.
